Non-Technical Survey
NTS is the first stage of humanitarian demining, providing essential information for planning further clearance operations or removing areas from the list of Potentially Hazardous Areas (PHA) and Suspected Hazardous Areas (SHA).
UA Demining operates one Non-Technical Survey team equipped with Valon and Trembita metal detectors, a DJI Mavic 3E Enterprise drone, and a Mercedes Vito special-purpose vehicle.
Within the NTS framework, our activities include:
-
assessing the potential presence of explosive ordnance in designated areas;
-
removing areas from the registry of contaminated or potentially contaminated zones where no further risk of mines or explosive remnants of war exists;
-
identifying socio-economic and other factors that may influence prioritization of subsequent actions.
Based on the information collected, our tasks also include:
-
classifying areas according to their hazard status;
-
defining and marking the boundaries of hazardous areas;
-
gathering information about incidents and accidents within the NTS zones;
-
developing strategies for effective clearance of areas contaminated with explosive ordnance.
During NTS, we avoid the practical use of demining tools and do not enter hazardous areas. However, when required, we use demining tools to create safe access routes to the area subject to survey.
